Introduction

A Jain Temple of Rashtrakuta Era, Later Converted to Mosque, Bodhan town, Nizamabad District, Telangana. Bodhan is located at a distance of nearly 23 km from the district headquarters of Nizamabad. Nizamabad is connected to Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana, located at a distance of approximately 175 km, through road and rail transport. Originally, there must have been multiple entrances, but only two of them are used now. . The statue of the Tirthankaras was moved to mount the pulpit. Now the jain temple turn into mosque, which has now become an old man’s rest area.

Puranic Significance

The Deval Masjid, which is situated in the historic Bodhan region of Nizamabad district as its name signifies, was originally a Jain temple, and later converted into a mosque by Muhammad bin Tughlaq (AD 1325-1351) at the time of his conquest of the Deccan region. The plan of the temple is star-shaped; which had later undergone slight alteration at the hands of Muslim rulers, except the removal of the shrine-chamber and the setting up of a pulpit. Original this was a Jain temple that was built during the period of Rastrakuta king Indra III in 10th Century A.D and it was renovated during the period of Kalyani Chalukya King Someswara who had then named it as Indranarayana swamy temple. This structure is still intact. The structure also has several sculptures attached which shows the skill of the workers in historic times.
