Introduction

- Age: Approximately 1000 years old.
- Deity: Lord Vishnu as PachaiVannaPerumal, seated on Adisesha (also called Paramapadha Nathan).
- Theertham: Chakratheertham.
- Vimanam: Pravaala Vimanam.
- Unique Feature: Alongside PavalaVannaPerumal Temple, both temples collectively form a single Divya Desam.
Puranic Significance
- Marichi Maharshi’s Doubt:
- Marichi Maharshi, a devoted Vishnu follower, questioned why Vishnu took a human avatar (Rama) and allowed Ravana to abduct Sita.
- Lord Vishnu appeared before him as PachaiVannaPerumal and explained his avatar’s purpose: to illustrate ideal family values and to honor those who love him, including Lord Shiva as Sri Anjaneya.
- Naga Deepam in Mother’s Shrine:
- Adisesha, who served as Lord Vishnu’s bed, incarnated as Lakshmana during Ramavatara.
- When granting darshan to Marichi, Adisesha could not manifest as himself; instead, he appeared as a lamp (Naga Deepam) in the Mother’s shrine, symbolizing the light of Vishnu.
- Jyoti Form of Vishnu:
- The Naga Deepam also relates to a story of Lord Brahma’s Yajna, where Vishnu appeared in the form of a Jyoti to aid Brahma after Saraswati disrupted the ceremony.
Beliefs
- Devotees seeking welfare for their children, relief from adverse planetary effects, or clarity in doubt pray to Lord Perumal.
- Special Thirumanjanam (ablution) rituals are performed for the deity and the Mother.
Special Features
- Appearance:
- Lord Vishnu appears in a standing posture, shining emerald green, hence known as PachaiVannaPerumal (emerald green).
- Darshan Details:
- In the sanctum, the Lord grants darshan as Rama while the Mother is represented as Sita, reflecting the unique nature of this temple.
- The color green is associated with the planet Mercury (Budha), and devotees worship with green clothing and Tulsi leaves for blessings related to this planet.
- Adjacent Temple:
- PavalaVannaNathar Temple is directly opposite, representing the color of coral. Together, worshiping both Perumals offers a rare darshan experience.
- Mother’s Blessings:
- Mother Mahalakshmi blesses devotees from a separate shrine, embodying three forms: Sri Chakra Rupini, Mahalakshmi, and Sita.
- Notably, the Sri Chakra is installed within the Mother’s shrine, a unique feature in this temple.
Festivals
- Vaikasi Visakam: May-June
- Aani Thirumanjanam: June-July
- Vaikunda Ekadasi: December-January
